Relief

My brain ain't really working this few days as I was rushing to complete a portion of my research. My symposium is just around the corner and I am stuck with idea on how to proceed. Same goes for today. Lastly around 1130a.m, I stand up, lock my door and have a walk around my new faculty block. I have just move to this new block a few days back. Hell of a day moving all those "shit"(s).

As I am wondering along a corner of lecture room, I stumble upon my ex-student from a year back (roughly). He saw me, excitedly and happily walk towards me and greet;

Student: Hi, Sir. How have you been doing?

Me:         Fine.

With his eager face expression;
Student: Sir, I want to promote something to you.

Me:         What? You do marketing now? You know me. I do not entertain marketing stuffs.

Student: No, Sir. I open up a franchise shop.

At that point, my mind flash back to a year back where this student actually come and consult me over this matter. I remember him not as a bright, lazy or exceptionally smart student. But a normal student like others. He perform normally, I mean averagely but a different attitude compare to other students in my class. He like to ask me questions. Questions which have nothing to do with my lecture. I taught Creative and Innovation Management at that time. Basically, its about how to manage your knowledge, retain and use it in terms of business environment.

Most of the questions he ask is related to business. At that point of time, I ask him;

Me:         Why you do not approach and ask your business teacher for this type of questions?
I believe they are more comfortable if compared to me in business issues.

Student: No, Sir. I like your advise compared to them.

I remember that I told my students before that my first degree is in finance. Maybe that is why he came and consult me on such issues.

Just days before the semester end, he came over to my room and consulted me on a franchise business. At that time, he told me that he wanted to open up a milk tea beverages. You know; those Bo 8 Tea,  Ochado, Chatime, etc.

At that time, I straight away ask him to forget about his plan.

Student: Why?

Me:         From my point of view, there will be more and more.
I would say there will be at least 8 - 10 similar shops will be open.
What do I teach you in my lecture?
You remember I taught you blue sea, red sea?
The probable situation that you will be getting in is red sea.
You can venture in if you have way to overcome your red sea.

Student: Why you said so?

Me:        Look around you. If you see a potential thing(s) which might work, will you go for it?
What I am trying to say, I am seeing a point where a lot of people will open the same type of shop as you are thinking now.
Why don't you look for something that has a lesser probability that people will venture in at that time.

Student: So, what should I do?

Me:        I would suggest you to think of other business area, such as fast food, etc.
Maybe you can try ask around franchise for ShiLin and other similar food
              franchise possibility.

At that time, I suggest ShiLin because my wife once told me that she would love to have a ShiLin shop in our work surrounding. I think financial should be an issue for my student as franchise need a huge amount of money. That is why I suggest a smaller scale of franchise shop to him and ask him to look for some other shops also. I mention to him the downside of ShiLin shop as I do not want him to jump to conclusion so fast. He is a student with no experience anyway. So, my try will be asking him to ask ShiLin for how much the total franchise fees for him to start venture his business. If he is comfortable compared to other kind of franchise, just do it.

Student: Sir, how am I going to know that people here like ShiLin food?

Me:         After your exam, go to bus stop. Bring a piece of paper.
Sit there from 9 to 5. Jot down how many people go to McD.
Make sure you mark down the gender, age, and regularity in visiting McD.

Because of financial issues and experience, I just opt the most simple and cheap and at the same time the most tedious method for him, direct observation.

Student:  Why?

Me:          Just do it. After getting all the answer, compile it and  you will understand.

I have a very bad habit in education which I do not like to teach things directly to my students.
I would prefer them to understand and enlighten by themselves.

No spoon feed policy in my dictionary. People do not learn properly this way.

That's it. That is the last time I ever saw him. Today, I mean just now, when he saw me, he gave me this.

Sorry for the bad quality of the picture. Taken from my old and loyal mobile phone. This student ended up opening the ShiLin shop.

Me:         You get what I want to tell you last time?

Student:  Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir.

This is the first time I feel relief in education line where a student really trust and take advise. Or should I use other word that relief? Uncertain on this case.

At this time, there is actually more than 8 shop of milk tea in my area. If he were plan to open up a milk tea shop that time, the time he complete everything and start to open his shop, it would be too late. My best guess is he will be struggling to survive as most of those shops now are struggling with buy 1 free 1 or 50% promotion.

Or am I just lucky in guessing that similar shops is going to blooming like mushroom at that time? I don't know. I can't predict future. If I am able, I am in 4D shop now!!

Conclusion, sometimes even your are equipped with a certain experience or knowledge, you do sometimes need to listen to your heart on decision making. It helps.

Adios y gracias.

Semester starts!!!! again....

Next week the semester starts again and I will be seeing my "beloved" students again. Aaki have to work today, so we came back from Ipoh yesterday night. As usual, I was driving at a pretty decent speed as I am using the one and only road to the Uni. Tight and dark. No street lamps. No reflector. No nothing.

I have been trailing behind a one ton lorry and a bus. As we are approaching nearer to the Uni, I saw the bus suddenly shift its course of drive from left to right. And suddenly go through a "bump". Up and down. At the fraction of moment, I saw the bus actually ran over a cow. An adult cow. Probably weighted about 200-300 kg. Being knock over by a car in front of the lorry. Successfully avoided by the lorry but not the bus and subsequently being ran over by it.

Even thought it is a cow. It is still a living thing. My heart turns sour while keep on driving back to the Uni. The vision of the cow being ran kept on repeating in my memory. Who is to blame in this case? I am not trying to point fingers to any party but I believe something can be done on this. NOT only to avoid running over a cow, but any other living creature. What if the cow just now is a human? The cow did not cross the road. It is just walking on the roadside. The car probably cannot see it properly and maneuver too close to the roadside and crash into it before ran over by the bus.

Well, you can look it at another angle for this. Just another unfortunate case. The cow did not bring any torch light or anything which can alert the incoming vehicles. No party should be blame on this.

Do the related party not know that it is a rural area which have no street lights?
Do the related party did not receive any accident report(s) on that particular area?
Do the statistic of accident(s) did not reported correctly or accurately?

Its  a sad thing that we have so called in a country which is developing. No effort have been done just because that area is not a "beneficial" area to some party. What is the yearly plan do we have again? If you understand the plan I am trying to mention... Its a crap if there is no beneficial to any party.

I think I have wrote a lot of nonsense for today. Continue for Rina work.
Ciao

From family with Love

I have been visiting hospital everyday this week. Every noon after work, will drive to this hospital. My dad have been admitted to hospital and will be warded a week. Will need to undergo a small operation. Yesterday, the patient in front of my dad seems like couldn't make it. Actually
more on giving up the daily life in hospital. He wanted to go back home and have a reunion with family members. All of a sudden, his sons, daughters and relatives come and visit him. Encouragement, laughter and sadness is the among the element that you can feel at that particular moment. All of them have been giving motivation for him to fight for his sickness. According the his sickness, based on what I saw on the record list, its just a minor sickness, related to urology. But doctor said (I accidentally heard..) he lack of vitamin in the body. So need to stay for another 2 days.. His daughter and son will take turn to look after him daily..And the situation on that particular time is really touching. Never give up hope on any of the family member(s) no matter what situation arise.

Its been a Year!!!

Finish whatever stuff I have been doing lately. Check on my blog and notice the last entrant is 26 February 2011. So,decide to "Update" a little.
As usual, keep on scolding my students everyday..
Its not that I want to, but given the knowledge that they have, how are they going to survive if they step into the industry? Assignment have been given since week 1 and until now no group show up their work. It is I am too lenient or they are too stubborn?

Have been slowing down lately on my thesis but will pickup back starting next week as I have settle most of my paper for this semester. Final exam, and etc is settled.

Was informed by my ex-colleague that a student complain to a local government party because she fail a paper. Just wondering how does this type of "Party" actually helps the student?
I know that particular student. No other word can best describe it. "LAZY". This is not the first time this student complain on the paper that he/she fail. So, does this complain will keep on until all the paper is passed?

Poor lecturer, having resign from a hell and is being call back for help. I wouldn't go back if I were that lecturer. I am afraid of hell..Hahahaha..

As I am writing this, my question is what is wrong with our education system which produce all this kind of younger generation? Do we as a lecturer work not hard enough to produce one??
Or is it because of the change of culture and the way we live now have a direct impact on them?

My friends and I use to come at least ten minutes earlier to class and wait for the lecturer to come. But nowadays, lecturer have to wait for student before starting class. Some even late for an hour and walk in like nothing ever happen.
My gosh.. If they were in my days, they are a goner..

But of course, I have a bunch of good students who always give me treat and even invite me for whatever activity they are organizing. I suppose this is the Yin and Yang that will exists no matter what is the issue(s).

Preparing to go back to hometown now. So, adios y cuidar.

To HCC With Love...

A replacement story for the previous "incomplete" story as I finally decided not to talk about it..

Suppose someone gave you a laptop.

No rules of the game states you must do anything. Instead of turning on the laptop, you could leave it in on the table where it will collect dusts, unused.

But if you do decide to use it, what would you do with it?

How would you play the game?

Would you plan and plan before you even type a word?

Would your plans be so extensive that you never even got to the typing?

Would you get someone to type for you, or would you take on the keyboard, plunge right in and just do it, struggling to keep up with the twists and turns of the torrents of words that take you where they take you?

Would you type cautiously, as if the battery might run dry the next moment, or would you pretend or believe (or pretend to believe) that the laptop's battery will lasts forever?

And of what would you type: placing instructions? marvellous deliverables? misery? life? death? nothing? everything?

Would you type to please yourself? or others? or yourself by typing for others?

Would your words be tremblingly timid or brilliantly bold? Fancy with a flourish or plain?

Would you stay in or on the lines, or see no lines at all, even if they were there? or are they?

Would you even type?

Once you have the laptop, no rule says you have to type.

Would you rather surf the net? play games? chat? doddle or draw?

There's a lot to think about here, isn't there?

Now, suppose someone gave you a life...

Cameron Highland (Part I)

Hahaha..Quite sometime since this blog is updated.

Well, got quite some issue with my work place but now I am at a new environment. Right after a week I move to Kampar, Aaki's sis come and drop by. They plan to visit Cameron Highland (CH).

So they came on Friday night last week. When they reach, we took them to have a supper as they didnt take their dinner (I guess..)cos right after their work, they travel straight down from KL.. Basically we went back to my house after that and watch 2 episode of HK series drama before saying good night to the world.

Early in the morning, we went to Fu Shan for Dim Sum (as usual..:-p). I miss their fish ball as it is very nice!! And of course there is others meal that really make me telan air liur.. The pic below says it all.

About 10 A.M ++, we start our journey to CH. En route to there really kills me. The roads is like snakes ALL the way up to our destination. I think about 45 minutes later,(I'm not so sure as I already sick of the road) we reach our 1st destination as planned. The Bee Farm @ Ee Feng Gu Apiary Sdn Bhd.

Basically inside sell all stuffs related to bee. On the 1st floor there is a so called the "Largest Maze in the world." We didn't enter as we think is not worth it as it cost RM3 per entrance. I was wondering is it large enough to make me lost in the "maze"?? I personally do not think so.

All kinds of coffee and tea you can find here.

This is the 3 8 gal. Still want to think ways of slimming. FongE, if you are reading this, please advice Aaki before she have a nice body figure like me..

After walking around, we decided to go ground floor, which is the Bee Garden. This is where they keep their bee and honey. But the journey doesn't even lasted 5 minutes as the gals is chicken out by the bees. I was "hit" by 1 of the bee. Luckily it doesn't sting me.

So we went to the Sungai Palas Tea Centre instead which is just across the road. I mean the entrance.

It is about 2km to reach the tea farm from here. We were suggested to walk there but was cut out by Sammo as it is too far. Thank god we all listen to his advise as it is really far from the main entrance even thought it is only 2km. The road size is very very small as it can only fit 1 car at a time. So this 2km really terrifying as you need to horn for every corner you turn as you can't see. I encounter a bus when going up. The experience is good but also a bit terrified. Cos when you try to give way to the bus, you need to look very carefully so that your car doesn't fall to other side. Roughly about 15 minutes later, we reach the destination. We have to park the car below there so that we can walk up to the cafe. Nice view huh??

This is the cafe. Look at the gal on the bottom left. She said "Smile" and thinking I was trying to take a picture of her.

This tea is nice and so does the cake.

Next, we visit the Tea factory to see how tea is produced.

This is 1 of the machine which is used to produce tea. Let's go inside now to see the whole process for a tea product.

One of the visitor I met here.

Basically, there is 5 big room here. Each have their own stage for processing tea. There is a major aroma of tea once you step in here.

How to calculate??

Let's say you have 6 option job to choose. If you have a job with a low paid and a job with a high paid that is considered mutually exclusive, then the probability of low paid job or high paid job is simply:

p(L or H) = p(L) + p(H).

@L - low pay job
@H - high pay job

What is the probability of getting either a low paid job or a high paid job? Since it is impossible to get both job at the same time, these two events are mutually exclusive. Therefore,

p(1 or 6) = p(1) + p(6) = 1/6 + 1/6 = 1/3

If the low paid job and the high paid job are not mutually exclusive, then

p(L or H) = p(L) + p(H) - p(L and H).

The logic behind this formula is that when p(L) and p(H) are added, the occasions on which L and H both occur are counted twice. To adjust for this, p(L and H) is subtracted. What is the probability that a job selected will be either low paid job or high paid job? The relevant probabilities are:

p(L) = 4/52
p(H) = 13/52

What the f*&^ am I trying to say here?? Me dunoo either..hehehehe.. Well, the next blog will be the "Fairy Tale- Part 2". Hopefully I can get it done before I move to my new life..

Secrets

I need another story
Something to get off my chest
My life gets kinda boring
Need something that I can confess
'Til all my sleeves are stained red

From all the truth that I've said
Come by it honestly I swear
Thought you saw me wink, no
I've been on the brink, so

Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insinceres
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect lie
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

My God, amazing how we got this far
It's like we're chasing all those stars
Who's driving shiny big black cars
And everyday I see the news
All the problems that we could solve

And when a situation rises
Just write it into an album
Singing straight, too cold
I don't really like my flow, no, so

Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insinceres
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect lie
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

Oh, got no reason, got not shame
Got no family I can blame
Just don't let me disappear
I'm 'a tell you everything

So tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insinceres
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect lie
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

So tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insinceres
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect lie
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away
All my secrets away, all my secrets away

Fairy Tale

I came across to write about this when my fren Edwin Van De Sar, ask me a question one day. “Does fairy tale ever exists??” According to my reading in Google, which is best teacher I have ever met in my life explain to me what a fairy tale is. Fairy tale comes from a French phrase conte de fée. The stories may be distinguished from other folk narratives such as legends and typically feature such folkloric characters as fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, giants or gnomes, and usually magic or enchantments.

In less technical contexts, the term is also used to describe something blessed with unusual happiness, as in "fairy tale ending" and though not all fairy tales end happily. In cultures where demons and witches are perceived as real, fairy tales may merge into legends, where the narrative is perceived both by teller and hearers as being grounded in historical truth.

After all the bla bla above, what is the conclusion?? Is it a YES or a NO?? For me, the answer is both. Some people do have a happy ending on whatever they do and some people do not. For my case, I guess I do not have a fairy tale ending.. The following writing got nothing to do with reality as it is just a imagination story.

Long time ago, in a far far planet in the Universe called Hermes Cronus, live a happily community in a secluded area namely Phobos. Here, a Satan @ Demon has been conquering this area for almost a decade. His name is Lilith. Even the Queen of this planet is also fear with him. Most of the newbie that moved to this planet have either been kicked out or have been casted by magic to leave this planet by this Satan. Only left a few powerful Sorcerers are able to withstand his evil plan to conquer the planet. They are Princess Aella, Princess Agni, Princess Fauna, Princess Shri and Prince Thelder. One day, a newbie come into this planet. His name is Mot. From here, the story of how this Satan is dethroned starts…

To be continue…

Perhentian Island

Our journey this time is to Perhentian Island!!! We have chosen this rather than Redang Island as now is the peak time for holiday. A lot of Amo Lang come to Malaysia for tanning.. Perhentian Island is basically located in remote town of Kuala Besut, Terengganu. Overall, our trip is 3days 2 night. At first, it is plan to have Aaki's sister and her husband to come along. But since her sister is pregnant about 6 months, so it would be safer if she join us next time..

A day before the trip, we stay at Aaki's sister house. We will be taking a flight to Kuala Terengganu airport. The flight is 7am. So we have to wake up at 3am!!!!

Online in KLCC

For those who want go to Perhentian Island, I would suggest you all to go to Kota Bharu airport as it is nearer to Kuala Besut. It took about 45 minutes to reach to Kuala Terengganu airport from KLIA airport. As soon as we reach, we took a taxi to go to Kuala Besut. It is about 1 1/2 hour journey!!! But if you were from Kota Bharu airport, it will only take about 45 minutes to reach Kuala Besut Jetty. Along our journey to Kuala Besut, it is nothing much interesting as the taxi driver is using the alternate road which is far from town. A lot of food stalls and most of it is selling lekor!!!! My old time favourite!!!!!! One of the interesting building that caught my eye is the "new" stadium build about 3 years back for SUKMA or something.. The one which collapse suddenly.. The reason it caght my eye is the building is still in the "collapse" condition even after 3 years!!!! Look at how our "people" handle all this kind of matter. As long as "they" get the money, other is "I don't care"...

As soon as we reach the jetty, we straight away go to the counter of the company that we paid for.. Anyway, the trip is by fast boat to Perhentian Island from here. It is estimated that it will be an hour trip.. Since, we reach early, we went to one of the stall here to take our breakfast. After that, off we go to the Perhentian Island!!! Not much people in the boat.. About 10 of us.. Got a couple that really really makes me sick!!! Kiss and hug non stop.. Blurk...Finally we reach the resort about 12pm.

The resort that we went for is Perhentian Island Resort. One bad impression I have with this resort is the service is slow. I mean very super duper slow. There is only about 10 of us and it seems like it take them thousand years to register a room. Well, I understand that there is only 2 of them who is working at that time, but I would really appreciate if they can sort this problem out. After our turn to check-in, we went to our room on the far right of this island. Since we are tired as we wake up around 3am in the morning to catch the flight, Aaki and I take turn to have our bath. Another thing that disgust me is that when it is my turn to take my bath, suddenly someone knock our door. When I open up, it is the staff from the resort. "Sir, we are very sorry. Can you move to room 301?? We apologise for our mistake. Please come to the counter to get your actual room key." I was like "FUCK YOU"!! They are already damn slow for their check-in service and yet they can make a mistake!!!!! Seriously, this resort need a new and better management. While reluctantly still mumbling foul language, I pack my stuff and move to room 301.

At 2pm, is the snorkeling session!!! After we had our lunch, we head straight to the place to take our equipment for snorkeling. We take three snorkeling session for this trip. One on the first day and two for the second day. For the first session, the speedboat took about 15 minutes to reach the destination. After ready, off I jump into the sea for my first ever snorkeling experience!! But someone chicken out and ask for more time before going into the sea.. ^-^

At first I found it kind of hard to swim around.. I can't swim though.. Hahahaha..
But I just swing my hand and leg like I do know how to swim. And the best part is I can really "swim" with the life jacket.. Hahahahaha..

The experience is good but a pity that our camera is not waterproof. The undersea view is definitely admiring and stunning until to a point where I don't want to go back into the boat. This session lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes before going back to the resort. Reach resort about 5.15pm. As soon as we reach, I straight go back and take a bath. After that, we went for our dinner.

About 830p.m, we went out to take photo. The thing about this resort is that at night there is no activities AT ALL!!! No TV, No Internet, No Nothing!! But I cannot deny that the experience is good as you leave all your stress out.. The night is really quiet and I went to the seaside for sea breeze. But it only lasted about 10 minutes as I was bitten by a lot of mosquito!! So we have no choice but to go back to the room and watch drama on the laptop..

Early in the morning on the second day, we straight go to the breakfast buffet. Of course, this is a buffet, so no hold barred!!! Hahahaha.

Lucky there is not too much people on this island. After taking our breakfast , we start walking around the seaside and take pictures.

At 10a.m we went for the snorkeling session again. This is the guide said that if we are lucky we can get to see a shark in close!! According to the guide also, the shark is a "vegetarian" type. Just make sure that you don't disturb it and you will be fine. We are lucky today as one of the guide bring us around the area and get to see a lot of fishes. And guess what..we indeed get to see the shark!!! It doesn't seem want to attack us or want to run away from us when the shark sees us. Just casually swim to other places. After about 15 minutes, we saw a "Nemo" fish.. Very cute..Thanks to the guide again as he have to go and trick the fish out from its hiding place. It seems like a very shy fish. As soon as it notice that we trick it out, it went back straight to its coral, the place where the Nemo hide. After this, I start to feel sick. Maybe I stay too long in the sea or maybe water pressure as I snorkeling around. But I still wanted to go for my last snorkeling trip in the afternoon. When we reach back the resort, its just nice for the lunch time. After taking bath, we went straight again to the restaurant!!! Basically the selection of food is very similar to yesterday lunch.

As for the last snorkeling session, I am quite disappointed as it is not as exciting as the previous two. The last destination is kind of "boring" as there is not much to see. But we have been warned no to touch a type of fish that lives in this area. But I hardly see one of that fish..

The guide also try to chase turtles around for us to see but the turtles here is very fast. As soon as it notice us trying to get a closer look, it will swim deep into the sea. Since its still early when we finish this snorkeling session, I went to the seaside for tanning until its about time for dinner. Hahahaha..

On third day we leave very early after our breakfast as we need to catch the flight at 12p.m. Perhentian Island is indeed a very nice place for holiday. I will definitely come back again in future..
